01/31/12

I went down yesterday around 10am and got on the treadmill.  I warmed up and ran for a minute then walked for 2 minutes.  The workout pick up my mood quite a bit for the rest of the day.  By 3pm I was exhausted but felt good having my workout in.  I think getting the workout in before 3pm helped.   I can't believe how sore I am today from that little bit of a workout.  2.16 miles kicked my butt.

I am still trying to figure out how I can be consistent with my workouts.  The stiffness and swelling are the worse in the mornings, so would a morning workout be the answer.  Work out the swelling and stiffness in the morning when I have more energy, when I'm not so tired.  As of late I am having a hard time keeping my eyes open in the afternoon, so getting on the treadmill is a chore.  Maybe sometime around noon when the soreness and swell are not as bad and I still have a little energy left.  I will try the around noon out this week and see how it works out.  Friday walked for 1.57 miles on the treadmill

01/26/12

Back to work today, feeling a little better.  I took my first dose of the Enbrel tuesday.  I already feel tired and my stomach is not right, but I don't really know if I feel worse or better.  Again this medicine takes awhile to build up in your system.  I am still on the Methotrexate but he is weening me off the Prednisone.  I am down to 7.5 mgs., which is way down from the 30 mg. I was on.  I stay for 2 weeks each on 7.5mg then 2 weeks at 5mg then 2 weeks at 2.5mg, then hopefully off this medication.  Then about 6 weeks for my body to fully get back to producing its own Prednisone.  So I am hopeing the by Feb. 14th, (nice Valentine's present for me), to be running hills again, which is 12 weeks away.  I heard on the TV this morning that a new study on arthritis again said the exercise is one of the best things you can do.  I need to get over this running mentality that if I don't run most of my workout that it isn't a quality workout and it really doesn't count.  I have the same mindset with cycling.  I need to get over this because I am really getting fat

I have been sick with a bug the last few days.  At least I think that is what is it.  Stomach is really bothering me along with headache and my joints are hurting more than normal.  I took the last 2 days off work so no exercise.  Hopefully will get back soon.

Did a short walk of 1.19 miles yesterday.  I'm am still working on the mind set that walking a mile is ok.  I don't want to say that it is better than nothing because that is not the mind set that get results.  I need to say, I walked for a mile, isn't that great.

We went away for 3 days to Vernal, Ut to see the remodeled dinosaur quarry at Dinosaur National Monument.  There was no changes except that it took them 5 years to sure up the building.  We had a good time.  We are dealing with the insurance company over approving the new medicine that Dr. Call wants me to take.  Hopefully we will fine out today one way or the other.  Walked for 2.74 miles last week.  Not going to beat myself up over the mileage because it is what it is.

As I said yesterday my energy level was low all day long and carried over to my walk on the treadmill.  I only got in 1.32 miles and called it quits.  Today is a new day and we will see how it goes

I feel like I am turning into a slacker.  My fatigue level is so high right now that all I want to do is lay on the couch and watch TV.  It took me most of the day Sunday just to get my normal house cleaning chores done.  Only three workouts last week for a total of 7 miles.  I will try and get in more this week.  Most of you know how much I love getting out and shooting my guns.  Well, I had to force myself Saturday to even do this.  My right hand has been giving me fits and I was worried how the guns would effect the pain.  It aggravated the problem somewhat, but I was able to shoot about 75 rounds.  I only shot the 9mm and the 38 snubby so I don't know how the 44 mag or the hot load 357's will work.  I ended up having fun even with the pain in my wrist.  Three day weekend coming up.  We are trying to think of something fun to do.

01/06/12

Went to the see Dr. Call yesterday and after talking with him for awhile we decided to get a little more aggressive with the treatment.  Some may think I'm crazy but I need to get on with my life.  If I can get this under control and I can get off the Prednisone I should be able to workout harder.  I am hoping the arthritis will go into remission and never be heard from again.  I am starting Enbrel injections if the insurance company will pay for it.  The injections are very expensive but Enbrel will help with the cost that the insurance doesn't pay for.  I know two people who take them and Enbrel has helped.  We went to the Asian Buffet after the doctor to eat.  It's hard to control yourself at a buffet, but I did stop eating before I was stuffed.  The scale this morning showed a .2 of a pound gain and that is ok with me.  I did get in a walk yesterday of 2.69 miles before my appt.

Walk/Ran for 2.26 miles on the treadmill.  Stayed on track with my eating last night.  It was harder than the night before but I made it thru.  The problem I have when I first start out is not eating enough.  I am trying to track my calories which should help.  My Dr. appt. is today at 3:30.  I have many questions that I need answers to.  No workout today but will hit it tomorrow.

01/04/12

I was able to get thru 40 minutes of a run/walk routine on the treadmill at work.  Am I stiff and sore, yes I am.  I do hurt more than if I just laid on the couch but it is bearable.  I did a warm up then walked for one minute then ran one minute.  I'll try this the rest of the week and see how it goes.  I ran/walked for 2.05 miles.  Not much but it is a start, giving me something to build off of.  Ate good at work.  We made eggs and potatoes with toast for dinner.  We were done eating before 6pm.  Eating nothing after 6pm was hard for me because I have been non stop eating right up until I go to bed.  I will work hard on ending this habit.  It did feel good to wake up and actually be hungry.  I will do weekly stats on Sunday mornings so I can post on monday.  Weight and mileage everyday.  I'm copying Brandon on the daily stats because I think having everyone see them will keep us more on track.

01/03/2011 Happy New Year

When I looked at the card on the fridge with my appointment with Dr. Call I didn't have my glasses on and I swear it said 1/3.  Thank goodness Carolyn looked at it over the weekend and it said 1/5, glad she looked.  Carolyn remember Dr. Call saying that I could run, just on a flat surface, just no speedwork ,HA HA.  So with that I decided to post my new years resolutions now.  They are the same as last year, it seems I make pretty good resolutions, I just need to follow thru with them.  Run and it doesn't matter, WALK ,1000 miles.  Cycle 1000 miles.  Swim 52 miles.  Waist 34".  Weigh less than 200.  I still need the St. George Tri this fall.  I have this problem of setting a goal for a specific event and letting myself down by now completing it.  I will not stand for that and I will finish a tri this year.  I also want at least one marathon for 2012.  These are pretty loofty goals but I need the push.  Here is what I think about my autoimmune disease that I have:  The less I do the more I hurt; Work hard and see what happens; Follow Drs. orders but I have to push myself because I am loosing muscle mass like crazy.  My starting stats are:  237.8 lbs, 47.8 % body fat, 136/87 blood pressure, pulse 68 and a crazy ass waist measurement of 47.5"..  The blood pressure has me the most worried because Armstrong already has me on a mild blood pressure pill.  I will think more about all the hard work that I put into exercising when I grab a bag of Dorritios and head for the couch.  This July the 20th of 2012 I will have 20 years with the Prison.  I have a good feeling that I will be able to make this a year to be proud of.
