Good to be home

I didn't realize just how much I like this little house until we were in Murray for 13 days. Carolyn is home and doing so good. She has been impressive with here recovery. She is getting around the house on wrist crutches and doing a fine job of it. I took out the glass doors on the tub and installed a shower rod in its place. One of the one that bow out so the curtain doesn't stick to you. We bought a toilet riser but she doesn't need it. Also got a tub shower chair that she used today and worked very well. Carolyn had her doubts about being strong enough to go through this. I think she found out she is stronger than she thought. I am proud of her. I was going crazy Tuesday so Carolyn sent me to Murray AC. Got in a triple which burned a little over 1600 calories. Wednesday I went to the AC during her therapy with the intention of doing a run. There was a swim lane open so I did my swim. When I got out I jumped on the Spin Bike to see if I was up to that and completed 12.5 miles. Feeling tired and a little shakey I started the treadmill which was awful for the first mile. After that I must have got my second wind so I finished the 3.23 miles. I was able to get back to back Triples. Felt tired yesterday but had no time to feel sorry for myself as we came home and got her settled. I also have another case of the Shingles. This time on my left calf. I hate Shingles with a passion. They suck. Other than all of the above life is slowly returning to normal. I will try and get some exercise in tomorrow. Lets all stay active

Doin somethun

Carolyn's therapy is going great. They do a couple hours a day at HealthSouth. Have been staying there to around 10 pm each night. I got away today for a 3.34 miles run and a 12.5 miles spin bike ride at the AC which burned around 1000 calories. I will get another massage tomorrow at the Utah College of Massage Therapy. The last one about killed me, so we will see. Will try and get in a little of something each day for the rest of the stay. Keep on a workin out

2/17/11

They moved Carolyn to Health South Rehab Hospital for at least 3 and maybe 7 days. I wasn't for this until I saw the progress she was making with the Physical Theraphy ms at the Hospital. The way she is responding, I think this is the way to go. Home might be to easy to not do what needs to be done. Her progress has been wonderful, I am so proud of her. I spent the last three nights at the hospital on a nice little single couch bed that they had in her room. With me not being on drugs like Carolyn, I was woke up everytime an alarm or a nurse came in and had a heck of a time gettng back to sleep. I don't think they will let me stay a HealthSouth so I will stay at Bills on the air mattress. I did run on the 13th for 3.5 miles and burned 479 or so calories. Nothing else but staying with her, I think that it helped her with me being there. Will stay up at least until Monday. Might go back to work Tuesday depending on what she wants and her status. Will try and get more exercise in because I am so stoved up it is had to move. Just Run

Happy Birthday Brandon

Hope you get over the kidney stones. Probably one heck of a birthday present. We have been in Salt Lake the past couple of days for Carolyn's surgery. They have scheduled it for 0530 Monday. She is the first of the day. Can't wait until this is all over, or should I say just the beginning. I ran 3 miles at the Murray AC the did 5 miles of the so called spin bike. I think that I burned around 600 calories. I got a massage Saturday morning and I must have needed it. I was wasted after the massage to the point that I wanted to sleep the rest of the day. I will post tomorrow on how the surgery went.

2/10/11

No running but I got in 50 minutes of hardcore Insanity which burned over 600 calories. After the warm-up exercises, is the stretch routine. Part way into the stretches my knee quit hurting. When I say this, the knee hurts at a low level all the time. When I complain about it, that means it hurts more than normal. I know that is crazy but it is what it is. I think I have some cartilage scar tissue in there and a piece has broken off again and gets floating around. When it gets in a certain place it hurts almost to the point I think I should have it looked at again. When I did the stretches, I think it got unstuck. Anyways it's back to normal??? Will try and get in some decent mileage today and over the weekend. I can't just sit in the hospital when the Murray AC is across the street. Carolyn will understand, maybe

2/9/11

My knee was bothering me yesterday so I took the day off. It's always fun trying to figure out why a body part turns against you and hurts. I got a pair of crocks for christmas. When I wear them for a long time my knee hurts. I did wear them in Elko. Insanity with all the high impact aerobics could be the problem. Doing a 14 mile run on pavement a week ago could be it also. Maybe having a fall off a roof and breaking that leg, maybe. The knee might be getting old, but of course the rest of me is not. It just might be that I am having sympathy pains for Carolyn because she is getting her knee operated on Monday. Just maybe

2/8/11

Did a good workout yesterday, run 3.05 miles and 45 minutes of Insanity which burned 1023 calories. My throat is raw from all the smoke I breathed in the casinos in Elko. I don't know how we all put up with me smoking non stop for all those years. I thought I was coming down with a bug, most likely it's the smoke. I think I will have to push myself to keep up the intensity of my workouts. The last week of January kick my butt something awful. I need to remember I am working on a lifestyle change, that this is not another yo yo type fix for me. I will push through this and come out the other side stronger than I have been in a long long time. Stay motivated, just run, just do something

2/7/11

I only got in one day of training last week. Ran 7.02 miles and burned 1100 calories. Enjoyed our time in Elko, went on roads we have never been on, which is always good. Next thing is to get Carolyn's knee fixed Monday. I will get back on the training wagon this week. I need to burn a few calories after the long weekend. Just run

2/2/11

I was wasted yesterday, so no workout. My morning pulse was 58 but I was restless most of the night. One of the main symptoms of over-training is restless sleep, I took the day off. I took a sleeping pill and was able to get 8 hours of sleep. My pulse this morning was 54, so the sleep and day off did the trick. Will not post again until Sunday. Have a good weekend

January totals

I hate wishing my life away, but I am so glad that January is over. We have had snow that fell in November that has never melted all the way, it has been cold. Even with running fireplace, our gas bill was over 90 bucks. Feburary is starting the same with a super cold front coming in out of the north. Temps in the teens and with wind chill close to below 0. I am looking forward to the warm weather. I ended the year at 218 lbs. and starting February at 215 lbs. for a 3 lbs. loss. My waist ended at 44 inches and I lose another 1/2 inch so I at 43.5 inches. This is slow going for me in the weight loss department but I have to be patient and consistent with the exercise, the results will come. January exercise totals. Run 101.04 miles, cycled 31.76 miles, swam 1 mile, Insanity for 3 hours. It has been hard to train for a Triathlon and a Marathon at the same time. I think that mixing up the exercises are doing my body good. I have a long way to go but when I look in the mirror at least now I can see improvement. So everyone keep exercising because in the end the results will pay all kind of dividends
