Week # 13 completed

Thirty miles a week just might be my magic number with a really long run every two to three weeks. Looking back over my training logs and posts tells me that when I ran 30 miles a week I was able to complete 19 weeks of training without blowing up. When my long run reached 13, I started doing them outside. I had a 37, 40 and a 44 mile weeks with long runs of 19, 22 and 25 before I caught a cold. With Hal Higdon's training schedule I was doing a long run every week for the first 6 weeks. I never did the step back week that he has scheduled to give your body a rest. Now here we have to go back to being 60 years old again and you all know how I hate doing this. I know that I was over training because I wasn't sleeping that well and my resting heart rate went up to the 70's. My body didn't get a chance to recover between workouts. I will write more next time about what I have planned. Stay consistent. Just run

  1. Now this is why I wanted to start a blog! It is good for record keeping purposes. It is nice to be able and go back and look at what you have done and look for ways to tweak your program to fit you. I know what you mean when you say you don't give yourself a recovery week because I am the same way. But I have come to find out the hard way that they are uber important when it comes to training. You can become burned out so fast when you are training hard all the time and your body wears down. And when you break down physcially it is enevitable that you break down mentally also. The key is how do you bring yourself back up and recover both physically and mentally. I think you are on the right track by evaluating you history so it will help you with your future progress. Keep up the good work. Love you. JUST RUN!!
